archives

6.06.2004

I recently took down a good section of my old archives. There was just no need for anyone to see them. They were written poorly and about subjects no one but myself would have any interest in. They're gone now.

I took the SAT yesterday. It was the second time I'd taken it, so I knew what to expect. It wasn't horrible. I think I did really, really poorly on the math section, but I've got high hopes for my verbal scores. There wasn't a single question in verbal I had to skip. There were some I was guessing on, but I'd eliminated a few of the options, so my odds of getting it right were 30 or 50%. I want my scores now, though. Even though they don't really matter, I want to see how I did and what I can improve on.

Also yesterday, I went to Maraia's dessert party. This was the second year I'd gone, and wow, what a difference. Last year, I didn't really know anyone except Maraia. This year, I knew almost everyone, at least by sight and some of them are people I consider friends. I felt so much more comfortable because there were so many more people I knew, so the odds of someone being around that I could talk to were that much higher. And of course, the food was great! A funny moment: I was standing talking to a guy I know, from my class. He's really, really tall and also Indian (As in from India, not Native American). I'm short and white. Maraia's mom walked up to me and said, "Penni! Is that your brother?" It was great. =D

Harry Potter

not really spoilers, if you've read the books, but don't read if you don't want to know about both good and bad points of the movie

It was quite good. Nowhere near as good as LotR of course, but is anything? It was definitely better than the first two. Although there were both cheesy moments and plot inaccuracies, it was good. My biggest peeve was Harry's eyes. Green. The eyes are GREEN! Not blue. Get it right! I was also disappointed that there was almost no quidditch. The only game included was the one where the dementors scared Harry off his broom. There was no house cup, or even any mention of houses. The fight with Hermione over the Firebolt didn't happen, because Harry didn't even get his Firebolt until after he'd discovered Sirius was a good guy. Wormtail, or the actor who played him, rather, was amazing! So creepy and slimy looking! I wasn't pleased with the casting of Sirius. Yes, he was supposed to be sallow and gaunt from his years in Azkaban (sp?), but he was supposed to be good-looking under all of that! Emma Thompson was brilliant as Trelawny! And Tom Felton was appropriately whiny. He did a great job overplaying his injury from Buckbeak. I was really disappointed by what werewolf!Lupin looked like, though. Instead of being all cool looking, he looked like this. I did feel that the beginning, when Harry was with the Dursley's and then at Diagon Alley, was a bit rushed. And Daniel Radcliffe was not the strongest actor of the bunch. Instead of feeling angry with Harry in the scene where he blows up Aunt Marge, I wanted to laugh. And there was a scene, right after he found out about Sirius Black's relationship with his parents and his part in their deaths where Harry runs away and starts to cry. Yeah... And there was an overabundance of cuddling, in my opinion. Hermione spent basically the whole movie hanging on either Ron or Harry or both. Overall though, spiffy movie, and one I'll probably watch repeatedly.
