I really don't like the Live Journal posting set-up. The way posts are archived really annoys me, to be quite honest. However, I do think they got a few things right. The first and main thing is the community. With Blogger, unless you're quite popular, it's easy to feel alone in the world, like you're just one poor sad blogger, writing your thoughts just to the computer screen. With LJ, you can friend people and the commenting seems far more active. On some active LJs or communities, it feels more like a discussion board than just comments. I also like LJ's communities. You can get together with a bunch of people who feel like you do and share your thoughts. The second thing that LJ got right is maybe less important, but cool all the same - the icons. I love LJ icons! I love the way that you can choose which icon you want to show with each post/comment you make. Although Blogger has improved that aspect slightly with the user pic option, it's still only one, and no one will see it unless they go to your profile. Have no fears, I'm not about to switch over to LJ. For all its flaws, I do like Blogger a lot more than I do LJ. However, I do think Blogger could take some tips from a wildly successful site (It's been nominated for a webby four times -- it's won their people's voice award thrice) and improve some things.

Brokeback Mountain.. It's being filmed right now, staring Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal as gay cowboys, with Ang Lee of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon directing. I think it's great that two relatively high profile actors are brave enough to do a movie that's obviously going to encounter a lot of controversy. Already, we've got intelligent comments over at Yahoo like "this story of two faggot cowboys makes me want to hurl...i hope this movie flops big time (like hulk) and whoever is attached to making the film has a sh***y career in hollywood" and comments that just plain don't make sense. What is this:

Cowboys are stupid enough. I'm from the midwest I know. But make, animal rapers gay too! That's just too much! I hope this movie does terrible and doesn't make any money! I have no respect for the actor's in this movie after this! The world is going to HELL! I bet this will even be a PG-13 movie too. I don't want my kids to have access to this

supposed to mean? First, the guy seems to claim that cowboys rape their animals. What? I've heard stories ranging from "Cowboys treat their animals with the utmost respect" to "Cowboys beat their animals", but I've never heard ANYTHING about beastiality! Then, he says "The world is going to HELL!" Because of this movie? From what I've read, it's just a basic cowboy romance, except it's got two guys instead of a guy and a girl. And the writer himself thinks it's going to be rated PG-13. Then, there is that sentiment. He doesn't want it to be rated PG-13? He'd rather it be rated R or even NC-17, so children can't see it? Does he not realize that films are rated for good reasons, and that if it were rated higher, it'd most likely be for sex, language, drugs, and/or violence? And he thinks that would make it a better movie? Wow. I just don't understand people sometimes.
